Student Skills Showcase

Contra Costa County Science & Engineering Fair

The Science & Engineering Fair helps stimulate interest and enthusiasm in science. It also provides the opportunity to give public recognition to students for their achievements and to encourage them to enter careers related to science, technology, engineering and math. Additionally, it affords parents and the community an opportunity to examine scientific investigation products and the communication skills of students in our schools today. Over 100 business partners serve as judges reviewing project content and interviewing students. Up to 350 seventh through twelfth grade students can participate in this annual event held in March at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg.

Redefining Mobility Summit

Innovative research and cutting-edge technology that is revolutionizing transportation around the globe is the focus on this annual conference held in April. Connecting our high school Project Lead The Way engineering pathways in the region to Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation Deployment allows both teachers and students to integrate this emerging field with in-classroom learning.

Bay Area LEEDS partners with Contra Costa Transportation Authority on this event by developing a PLTW High School Showcase at the summit. The nonprofit also is the beneficiary of any unused event funds which then are dedicated to STEM efforts of common interest to both organizations.

Showcasing student projects at this international conference gives students the opportunity to integrate their hands-on experiences and share with individuals from the Advanced Transportation sector. Most employers have no idea how much East Bay high schools are preparing their future workforce!

Association of Manufacturers Bay Area Annual Summit

The Association of Manufacturers Bay Area (AMBayArea) is a trade group dedicated to ensuring that manufacturing thrives in the Bay Area. AMBayArea supports and promotes Bay Area manufacturing through Advocacy, Collaboration, Member Education, Purchasing Power, and Workforce Development. Yearly, AMBay Area holds a summit which provides a forum where Bay Area manufacturing leaders can bring their management team to re-connect with peers, learn from industry experts and make new connections.

Students showcase their Project Lead The Way Engineering projects which serves as a testament that East Bay high schools are developing manufacturers’ future workforce with the essential skills needed for industry to thrive in the Bay Area economy.

INVENT Day–An East Bay Project Lead The Way Challenge

To promote innovation and entrepreneurial mindsets of PLTW Engineering Pathway students, INVENT Day is designed to push students’ innovation and creativity, have them compete for the best design and practice with rapid prototyping tools, and present their designs to an industry panel of judges. By the end of the competition, student teams will have developed a product/solution to a specific challenge revealed on the morning of the competition.
